TRUE FRIENDS

I sat there in her driveway and wondered what I was going to say..

If she answered her door....

I truly had not planned on stopping by,

but when I woke up this morning…

God told me..

GO !!

Your friend NEEDS you..

It had echoed in my mind all morning long.

We had been sitting just yesterday chatting watching the others talk

and I could tell she had something going in…

I heard her vaguely mention something that might be taking her joy.

She was trying to hide her pain with a guarded laugh.

Her tears occasionally would pool up in her eyes.

At the time, I gave her a small hug and told her I was thinking of her;

 we quickly shifted our conversation to something more comfortable;

our kids, the events of the week.

But then, this morning as I darted out this door,

a verse came into my head.

Her face came across my mind and my heart told me.

YOUR FRIEND NEEDS YOU...

God tells us that friends stick together closer

than our own family

regardless of the circumstances.

So now, here I sit in her driveway,

bearing a small gift, a flower,

to brighten her day..

I have no idea what to say because

I have no idea what is going on.

I’m not a counselor..I have no answers.

I am just a common person who wants to try to cheer her up.

What on earth am I doing here !!!

I reach to put my car in reverse, then suddenly I remember a talk,

I had with my oldest son years ago.

Nick was in the second grade; he came in with his shirt in a mess

and a patch of dirt on his pants leg.

It was obvious he had gotten into a confrontation of some sort.

The story came pouring out of him that day

over a handful of Cheez-Its and some grape Capri Sun.

“Tim got hurt at recess today.  He scraped his knee on the cement

when he tripped while we were playing tag.

When he fell, he hit me and we both fell.”

We landed right into the mud puddle that was beside the cement pad.

I’d kept my composure as I tried to picture the whole scene.

“So you helped him to the nurse?” I’d asked as I attempted to fill in the gaps.

“No,” Nick replied with a humble shrug.

“Tim’s leg hurt too bad to walk”.

It became clear to me that Nick had got another child

to go get the teacher to help.

“I just sat with Tim until the teacher came.”

“In the mud puddle?” I’d retorted with an small laugh.

“Yeah …” he had replied with a small laugh.

“I think he just needed a friend to be there;

he needed a friend to sit in the mud with him."

I gave him a big hug and told him how proud I was of him

for giving support to his friend.

When you have nothing to give, you can give yourself.

When you can’t fix the problem, you can offer your presence.

When you can’t heal the hurt, you can hold a hand.

When you can’t find the words, you can lend an ear.

I sat there and stared at my friend’s door again..

Lord, HELP ME BE THAT FRIEND !!!

Use my mouth, Lord.., but so more,

be my eyes and ears, Lord.

I opened the door, and started getting out

and poured my coffee all over myself..

GREAT!!!

SUDDENLY I looked up, and there standing in her doorway…

is MY FRIEND

laughing at my expression and my clumsiness.

I stood there…looking at her and burst into laughter.

I reached into my car,

got her flower, and said…

Hey girl !!!

I brought you a flower to brighten your day !!

She came to me with a damp cloth to wipe my coffee

off my clothes with both of us laughing…

Sometimes we need more than bandages…

more than a hug…

We need a good laugh..

WE NEED GOOD FRIENDS !!

Sometime we just need someone who is willing to sit with us in the mud and laugh.

Friends who will dance in the rain with us..

NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON !!!

Dear Lord Jesus, give us courage to always be available, and

to be that friend when we are needed.

Proverbs 18: 24   A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

John 15:14, Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

REJOICE AND BE GLAD!!!

Spend time with a friend who needs some joy in their life.

If you are in a “rainy season”, spread some sunshine.

Love Always,

BE BLESSED,

Lisa G.

Of Hens and Humans

I saw a lot of human characteristics and actions while I sat there on the stoop at my Mama's Ruby's house.  You can learn a lot watching the happenings in a barnyard.   I know I did watching the many adventures of my grandparent's roosters and chickens.   This brought to me, after all of these years, in a featherly way what is common and wrong in the lives of people.   We are a lot like those birds. I have a beautiful group of chickens and roosters. They are all different varieties and colors.   Each one has its own style and personality.   I named one of those beautiful hens, Ellie Mae.  She was a victim of the other chickens’ unfair treatment.  She was a beautiful hen.  I would sit and watch her walk around the grass.  I was sitting on the porch cracking some pecans one day.  We were going to make some pies.   I noticed that sweet Ellie Mae had some feathers missing.   L ater that day, I saw what had ha...

JUST DUST

JUST DUST As I peered down the grocer aisle, there she was.. Standing there with her red pigtails, and fancy hair bows. I wanted to melt into the floor, and fade into the tile.  I was wearing my polyester pant suit that my Aunt Lucy made me... She was wearing store bought clothes; it was just one of the reasons  she thought she was better than me.      And well, some kids at school thought if you didn't have  those fancy store bought things that you didn't match up.   I was just not good enough.  See, my family didn't have all those fancy  things that money could afford. My daddy was a hard worker. He worked from daylight to dark.. He was a carpenter.    My Mama and Daddy gave me and  my brothers a wonderful, loving home.   They provided for us well.  They took us to church. ...

No Not One

NO NOT ONE I was sitting on the doorstep with my friend Sophie one Saturday evening, and I said, “Sophie, ask your Mama if you spend the night at my house tonight.” “Hey, great idea”, she said.   We were only seven years old, and having a sleep over was way cool.   Then she said, “Oh wait, tomorrow is Sunday.   Are you going to go to church?” I said, “Well, yes, of course I am, but you can go with us.   Come on, you will like Sunday School.   It is fun.” “Oh, I don’t know”, she said.   “Why, don’t you want to go”? She said, “I don’t think God wants me in Heaven, I have been too bad.”     I giggled at Sophie, and she gasped..I quickly apologized And gave her a hug..and said: My dear friend My Dear Lord and Savior Gave his precious son’s life blood for you   All of us are too bad for Heaven… But NONE of us are too bad To be FORGIVEN...
